Suppose if deposit is Rs 1 lac for 2 BHK flat and rent Rs 5,000, if I gave rent of Rs 500 or no rent at all, is is permissible to get a flat and stay this way?

To pay a greater deposit and pay very less rent, or no rent at all, in both the above mentioned situation, it is considered interest, and is haraam and not permitted. Any loan, which brings profit, is considered interest. In above mentioned example, instead of paying Rs 5,000, if you pay rent of Rs 500, then balance amount Rs 4,500 is considered interest. People who claim it permissible, are wrong.

According to Allama Lakhnawi even if you get special permission to use such a house by the owner it self, it is Haraam.
